9 tips for healthy aging

  1. Breathe. Stress is incredibly harmful to us and hard on our bodies. Take a few minutes daily to breathe deeply and use your senses to connect to the world around you. Really smell the air, feel the breeze, hear the birds, and feel the texture of life humming through you.

  2. Nourish yourself physically. Make healthy choices, chew your food fully, and feed yourself for optimum health. A dietician can help recommend what foods to focus on to lower inflammation, keep your brain healthy, help your heart, or fill up with fiber. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a daily must!

  3. Move. Stretch or walk it doesn't have to be strenuous or really athletic, rotate your wrists and ankles, tilt your head from side to side, raise your arms as high as you can or reach out as wide as you can. Motion is lotion and keeps your joints lubricated and mobile for years to come.

  4. Nourish yourself mentally. Keep growing and learning throughout life, maintain a playful sense of curiosity and wonder. Fill your mind with with what helps your flourish, what fills you with purpose, what fulfills you. Read and learn, pick up an instrument, learn a language.

  5. Get creative! Dance, paint, make music, discuss philosophy, get crafting or other types of art, just try something.

  6. Connect with nature. You don't have to travel to the woods, find a houseplant and just admire it, look at the birds and trees from the window, smell the fresh rain, and admire the beauty of our desert sunsets.

  7. Laugh. Enjoy life, indulge once in a while and relish the experience. Our time is precious, let's make the most of it.

  8. Give back. Find ways to build community and support others who may need it, this can be invogorating and rewarding and helps keep us active and learning too.

  9. Connect. Find community, build friendships with likeminded people. Meaningful connections and love are key to wellbeing and longevity.
